OS X 10.9 Mavericks now being Golden Master we launched our usual application testing to compare, for the same machine with Mountain Lion. We have updated our 10.9 iMac 21.5 "" Haswell "tested it a few days ago with 10.8. Basically there are gaps in one direction or the other, but most of the tested software turned more or less at the same pace.
Mavericks proved 12% faster in iMovie encoding with a minute less. This is the result we had last year on a Core i7 iMac with the GeForce GT 650M, while Intel was still down with this application. Conversely, Zip compression in the Finder went 24% slower. In between, we got scores that were sometimes better for Mavericks (GarageBand, Aperture), sometimes worse (Photoshop, Handbrake, XLD and iPhoto). But in one case as in the other, the differences are so tenuous that it will have little impact in everyday life. We are not immune either a renewed interest for its Apple iLife apps with significant enhancements to the key ...
Curiously, there is a decline in OpenGL performances by CineBench R11.5. In the same test, the CPU results were also down compared to the same test of this iMac with Mountain Lion, which leads to caution those of OpenGL. ml On JavaScript code execution, the three bench of Apple, Google ml and Mozilla all give the new Safari 7 faster than the Safari 6.0.5 of Mountain Lion.
